(A letter from your kids)
Dear Mom,
Thank you for working.
Thank you for using your innate gifts and experiences to make this world and our lives a bit better.
I’m learning a lot from watching you.
I’m learning that I have dreams. That I was born with value and talent and I get to choose how to use it.
I’m learning that I should never settle. That life is too short to do something I don’t want to do. We are all made for more! To achieve success in whatever form we decide that to be.
I am learning that women bring something unique and necessary to the work-place. That their voice is important and valued.
I can see how you are better at your job because you had me. I can see how your capacity to achieve, push through, problem solve and get creative has increased because you have a family.
Every work-place needs moms just like you!
I can also see how exhausted you are at the end of the day when you come home…but it’s a good exhaustion. It’s the kind of exhaustion I feel after a day of playing outside, getting dirty and seeing all my favorite people.
I want you to know its ok. I’m actually inspired by your exhaustion.
You’re teaching me to work hard. To love what I do and love the people I do it with.
Of course I want more of your time…you’re amazing...who wouldn’t?!.
But, not getting it also teaches me something. It teaches me that honoring myself and my talents is extremely important. That it is, in fact, a piece of happiness.
I could tell if you didn’t have something you loved to do that you wouldn’t be happy. That you would get out of bed dreading the day and the whole family would feel it.
I don’t think we alone could make you happy, anyways. You were born for more! I am proud you are out there doing something you love. I’m going to be a better person because of you…because you’re my mom…because you’re modeling how to be a good human.
So thanks….
When the days get hard, just remember, you’re my inspiration and I love you.
Love,
Your little pumpkins
