So you know you want to work, now what?

So you know you want to work, but you’re not happy in your job. Now what?

(crickets, crickets, crickets)

It’s overwhelming, right?

🤷🏽‍♀️ Should you look for a new company?

🤷🏽‍♀️ Try to find a different role at your current company?

🤷🏽‍♀️ Change careers entirely?

🤷🏽‍♀️ Different boss or team?

🤷🏽‍♀️ Maybe it’s time for a 3-month sabbatical?

These are tough questions to answer when your brain feels overwhelmed.

Recently, I helped a friend move out of her home.

She had one room that was their “trash” room (no judgment here, some people have trash drawers, others trash rooms – I get it).

When you walked in, there was stuff piled from floor to ceiling.

It was overwhelming to look at.

My friend’s brain simply shut down every time she opened the door because she didn’t know where to start.

Her brain needed a simple plan.

Break down the room into smaller sections. Decide where “kept” items will go. Go through one box at a time and move it to the side when finished.

When she didn’t think about the whole problem, it felt manageable.

When she stood back to look at the whole room, it felt impossible.

Your brain needs to do the same thing when it comes to determining the next steps in your career.

It needs to break down the problem into small sections.

If you did yesterday’s homework, you have already done the first step: Decide if you want to work.

If you answered yes, the next logical question is: Do you want to do what you’re doing?

With each answer will come a logical next question.

I have broken it down into a simple flowchart:

There are only 6 possible outcomes after you follow the natural progression of questions.

(6 feels pretty manageable, right?)

From there, all you need to do is take just one step toward the solution.

✅ Update your resume

✅ Schedule a meeting with your boss

✅ Commit to journaling about what you want

✅ Hire someone to help you

If you know the goal, the next step is easier.

If you find you need help in HOW to achieve your next step, that is where I come in.

I have developed a unique process to help my clients advance their careers without ever feeling like they're sacrificing their families.

In 6 months, you could have a new job, a brand new career, more time with your kids, and a confident “I am doing exactly what I should be doing” feeling.
