I don’t want my family to sacrifice for me.
The thought that this might happen immobilizes many women from making changes in their careers.
I don’t want them to have less time with me.
I don’t want to stop saving for their college.
I don’t want to have to skimp on activities.
(all possible scenarios if you change jobs/careers)
But the truth is, your family is sacrificing for you right now.
Your unhappiness has an effect on your family. It’s not a financial effect, it’s an effect on their mood (on their happiness).
Research shows that kids are profoundly affected by the mood of their parents.
And no matter how hard you try to leave your unhappiness at work…your unhappiness follows you home and lingers with you.
It’s like a computer program that is constantly running in your brain and affecting everyone around you. It’s impossible for it NOT to have an effect.
So a decision in your career to increase your happiness is a decision to increase the happiness of your family.
Reflect on this…
Why might your kids WANT you to be happy?
Why might they want you to be happy OVER you saving for their college?
Why might they want you to be happy OVER you spending more time with them?
It really is just a matter of perspective.
You can decide that the greatest gift you could ever give them is a happy mom.
And then do the work to become that person.
And then, it’s a win-win.
