Why you feel like you are just walking in circles...

Why you feel like you are just walking in circles...

After my daughter was born I felt lost. Like I was wandering a desert without a compass. No sense of real direction. No clue how to get back on track. Unsure how I was going to survive.

I felt stuck. Stuck in a job that I had once loved but no longer wanted to be at.
Stuck in a pay-check.
Stuck in responsibilities.
Stuck in the day in, day out, grind of life.

How to give your mind a vacation, even if you can't get away

How to give your mind a vacation, even if you can't get away

I am taking my family to Disneyland in exactly "24 sleeps" (that's how I explain it to my 5 year old). My daughter actually has a calendar on the fridge that we use to count down the days. Sometimes she counts backwards or the wrong direction or skips numbers, etc...but there is no question that she, and the whole family, have an immense amount of anticipation building up to this vacation.

I started preparing for this vacation, about a month ago.

As my youngest looked at a picture of himself and "attempted" to say his name, I had several emotions race through me.  Joy? Pride? Affection?

Likely it was a combination of all three.

He has learned so much this year. He went from crawling, to walking then talking and now terrorizing his older sister.

The growth he has experienced in this calendar year is monumental. I’ve, of course, already watched this process in my older daughter but it still catches me by surprise as I see him go through each stage of development, one by one.

Yesterday, I reflected on these emotions as I realized I was witnessing yet another type of growth.

Does Balance Exist?

Does Balance Exist?

Is work/life balance even possible? Can you really have a successful career and a thriving home life?

I'm pretty sure as a working mom, this is something you've been thinking about....because it seems like the golden ticket. If you could just find a healthy balance between work and home, things would feel better, right? You'd feel less guilty, right? There would be less overwhelm, right? You'd be more productive, right? Your family would get your best self, right? You'd have more me-time, right?

WRONG!

Two very important shifts to ensure that your home life is getting your best self

My 4 year old is going through a challenging season (can anyone relate)? She needs more of my attention then ever before. Usually she is hungry, tired and just flat out jealous of her younger brother and she needs me to be my best self so I can help her be hers. This is the joy of parenting, right? This is what we signed up for, yes?

But at the end of the day, I have nothing left to give.

What some working moms have, that you don't

What some working moms have, that you don't

Being a working mom brings about an array of colorful emotions. On average days, it is mostly exhaustion but for many working moms feelings of guilt, unfulfillment and bitterness are also common.

These working moms are barely hanging on. Every day feels like an uphill battle and the summit isn’t anywhere in sight. They are lost. Confused. And stuck.
