I got home from work, pretty tired.
Then I started dinner and picked up the house before sitting down to be with my 3-year-old.
She wanted to play with playdough, so we got everything out and sat down at her little white table and chairs.
In the background You Are My Sunshine was playing and I found myself drifting off in my thoughts.
I didn’t respond to that email and they need information tomorrow morning.
Maybe I should do a little work tonight to knock out a few things on my list.
Oh wait…I need to focus on my daughter. What did she just ask me?
And in an instant, I’m back in the present.
But, now it’s time to get back to dinner…and the precious moments I had with my kiddo have been lost.
This is such a common scenario for working moms.
They struggle to turn off their work-brain and be fully present with their family…even if they know it’s the most important thing.
Being present means you are actually experiencing the moment you are in.
Not the moment that just happened (or happened earlier in the day).
Not the moment that will happen (in the future).
But the current moment.
The current moment is the only moment that ever matters because it’s the only moment that you can actually experience.
It is where memories are made.
Where joy is found.
Where love is felt.
Where fulfilment happens.
Where lessons are learned.
Where dreams are conjured up.
Where smiles take place.
As a working mom, learning to live in the present is where the magic happens. It’s where you can experience fulfilment in your job AND happiness in your home life.
