2 things keep you from being present

There are two types of distractions that will keep you from being present this holiday season:

Physical distractions

Mental distractions

Physical distractions are physical objects, like your phone, that once put away no longer steal your focus.

Mental distractions are the things you can’t shake from your mind, like the conversation you just had with your boss or the unfinished shopping list.

Physical distractions are managed by simply putting the distraction away so you can’t see it, while mental distractions take something different to manage.

Mental distractions are in your head…they are your thoughts, your worries, your unfinished tasks, your anxieties. It is the place your brain wanders that pulls you away from the present moment.

To be present this holiday season, you will need to learn how to manage your mental distractions.

Your thoughts cannot be wandering all over the place like lost sheep 🐑 if you want to be in the here and now.

❌You cannot be thinking about what you’re going to cook for Thanksgiving while reading a book to your kiddo.

❌You cannot be stressing about the Black Friday sale you need to be on top of while trying to connect with your partner about their day.

❌You cannot be thinking about the holiday dinner conversation that just took place that really got under your skin.

To be present, you need to learn how to wrangle in these distracting thoughts so that they lose their effect on you.

During the Be Present for the Holiday’s Challenge, inside the Collective, I am going to give you a simple practice to help you stay ahead of these distracting thoughts.

There are 5 simple questions to answer every day. It will take you no longer than 10 minutes.

By doing this daily work every day during the challenge, you will gain awareness over how and why your brain likes to get distracted and then have the tools to regain control when it happens.

🔥That way, when your brain suggests you get up and clean the house, you have already decided how you will handle this moment and instead choose to bake cookies with your kiddo.

🔥When you brain is ruminating on a comment your mom made about your parenting style, you will have a plan for how to cool yourself down and let it go so you can enjoy the rest of the day.

🔥When your brain suggests you check email during your vacation so you can “get ahead” when you return, you will already know exactly what to do so you stay completely unplugged during the holidays.

Learning to refocus your wandering thoughts is a practiced skill.

That is why you answer the same questions every day.

The more you practice, the easier it will get.

During the challenge we will be practicing together.

And you will be supported by other working moms learning how to manage their thoughts too.

This daily practice is part of the bonus material you receive inside The Ambitious and Balanced Working Moms Collective. The doors are open and you will need to join by midnight on December 5th to get all the perks of the challenge including a 1:1 coaching call, access to my private voice messaging app, 3 workbooks and a bonus coaching call.
